Buren

Buren, bordered by roadside meadows with cows and sheep, is another of Ameland's picturesque villages. Also known as Ameland's youngest village, Buren has visibly moved with the times. The cosy village centre is formed by modern amenities such as shops, lively cafés and inviting terraces, which guarantee conviviality.

Buren has about 700 inhabitants and is the easternmost village of Ameland, home to beautiful nature reserves such as Het Oerd and the Kooiduinen. Het Oerd is known for its ancient and richly vegetated dune complex. The Oerdblinkert is Ameland's highest dune at +24 metres. From this high dune, you have a wonderful view of the nature reserve.

The most beautiful walking route in the vicinity of Buren is Buurderduinen. During a 4.5-km walk, this hiking route takes you past the most beautiful locations on Ameland. This walk is very special because it also takes you through 3 different areas. It starts at the dunes, crosses over to the woods and ends with a walk on the beach. A real "must do" for any nature lover.
