Hiking on Ameland

The many walking routes along cosy villages, nature reserves and over the dunes. That's what makes Ameland special! Here you will explore the challenging nature and, of course, the most beautiful spots on the island. Every year, several interesting walking events are organised on Ameland. Walking routes with distances from 3 to 25 kilometres and even 50 kilometres. All of them, here on Ameland.

On Ameland, you will also find several routes for young and old. The Paddenpad on Ameland is a fun route for young children. The path is 2.1 km long and the starting point is at Nes Nature Centre. From there, you walk a short distance along the outskirts of Nes. Pretty soon you end up in the forest and have a choice of routes. Also perfect for walking with your dog! On the signs along the way, you can read fun information about nature and life on Ameland.

For the real hiking enthusiasts, Hollumerduinen and Lange Duinen are highly recommended. The footpath is 8.6 km long and the starting point is Oranjeweg. Opposite the Oranjeweg is the Hollum lighthouse. This is a very easy starting point. While walking this path, you will walk over dry dunes, through damp dune valleys and along the beautiful beach. Particularly beautiful!
